Ok, I just went through the whole deal of registering and activating a comment account just to tell you how wrong your coworkers are. Crazy Twilight fans are like that, I suppose (even those holding literature degrees who ought to know better).
But “I guess you can read something religious into anything”? SERIOUSLY?
They have these involved DISCUSSIONS about whether he has a soul in each of the four books! It’s a MAJOR PLOT POINT FOR THE ROMANCE STORYLINE (It’s at the end of Book 2, but I don’t want to spoil it for you). Not to mention the explicitly religious conflict that forms the basis for the conflict between the two lovahs in Book 4.
Are they serious? Did they read the books? I’m appalled. What were you trying to bounce off them? And do you want to be spoiled? Because obviously I don’t know anything about your dissertation, but the theological focus of the series is second only to the romance focus; it seems like the exclusion of the series would be significant.
Hi! It’s Murcia from Moonlit Garden. Glad to see you back.
Oooo! I didn’t know your dissertation was on young adult books. I’d love to know more about it.
I’m not clever enough to offer any insight on theology in Twilight.
But I read a series of posts which argues that the Twilight books are a kind of religious fan fiction.

The humor is not work-safe or nice-people-safe but she skewers New Moon which made happy.
