You totally would have fit right in with my group of friends at Valpo.  We’d get into discussions of church history and debates about (mostly Lutheran) theology all the time, despite the fact that only a couple of us were studying theology.

Also, I cringe with you that any Catholic has such a tenuous grasp of their own theology.  I think that’s a conversation that would have ended with an exasperated facepalm were I there.
